Fixie Conversion : Stage 4

Today I spent some more time on my bike, and quiet a lot got completed.

The wheelset I ordered arrived, I ended up going for a flip/flop set from velogear.com.au, they have a 18 tooth free wheel on one side and an 18 tooth fixed cog on the other. They are entry level quality but from all reviews they seem to be nice and strong/reliable.

The paint was allowed to cure for the last week. I wanted to make sure it was really set before doing any assembly.

I have to say that I’m really happy with how its coming up. The guys over at http://www.mawsonlakescycles.com.au/home/ were great, they have helped me out quiet a bit so far.

I still need to get a few more bits and pieces like; crank set/pedals, tires and a break lever. But over the next few weeks they should all come together and then ill be able to get it finished off and take it for a shakedown ride.

Let me know what you think so far.

  1. Cool buddy.

You’ll have to make me one when you’re done.

  2. Hey mate, ive also started coverting my indi 500 and ive got a shun crankset from velogear. Just wondering what BB you used/are using?

  3. Hey I reckon you would do well to get hold of a 700c fork. I grabbed one off Ebay to tighten up the steering on my roadie frame conversion. The item number is 260588746006. They even have a sloping crown! More powdercoating/rattle can though…

  4. Hi, I’m thinking of doing the same thing. What sort of paint did you use and how did you paint it (eg. spraypaint or with a brush etc). It looks great BTW.

    • I used a spray can, first was an under coat of primer, probably 4 light layers, then i did about 12 really light layers of a white gloss epoxy enamel (out of a spray can).
There are 2 important things to get a good finish, make sure you take the frame back to bare metal and get it as smooth as possible, and then when you paint, do light coats, if you get a run in the paint you will never get it out properly.
      All the best.
